Crewe Alexandra – Red Devils (1-2)

October 27, 2006

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, a rather subdued Red Devil team travelled to rainy gresty road to face a steely looking Crewe Alexandra. The young and inexperienced team, comprising of seven full internationals, each of them probably earning twice of the entire Crewe’s reserve bench, came out all guns misfiring for most of the match. It was a disappointing return to first team action for Alan Smith, Silvestre and Heinze, all on the back of injuries. Solskjaer and Kieran Richardson were the only senior players who looked motivated enough for their fearsome Championship opponents. Kuszczak was hardly called into really meaningful action except for a couple of routine saves.

What about the really young and inexperienced in the team. They fared not much better other than Ritchie Jones providing the assist for Solskjaer, and the game’s first goal. Kieran Lee’s timely goal contribution with 3 minutes left in extra time, saved us all the desperate thought of watching our beloved devils kicked out in unsavoury fashion again. While the rest of united trudged off the field, knowing their wet hair would be individually and warmly blown dry in the dressing room by one attentive Fergie, Lee – trained as a defender – will be thankful that his defensive instinct to whack the ball was restrained to a clinical low strike.

The goals were the only highlight in a rather uneventful match. Ritchie Jone’s provided a tempting cross for a chance that a much lesser striker (Shevchenko?) would spurn, but not our dear ole boy, Solskjaer who volleyed the ball to the bottom corner leaving our old boy Williams with no chance to save at all.

In the 2nd half, Varney bumbled into the united box and shot from the edge of the area past the bamboozled Brown and Kuszczak to earn a well-deserved celebration, Barney-and-friends style. Incidentally, Varney could be set to join new friends at Aston Villa or Portsmouth, depending on whether they decide to break the bank by signing him for a kingly sum of £500,000, or the equivalent of Beckham’s left toe.

Sadly, while Arsenal can tune in to watch their delicious young talents like Cesc and Walcott, all I enjoyed after sacrificing my night of sleep was mindless running, zero fancy crossovers, lots of uninspired and misplaced passes from the bunch of youngster thats supposed to take over the famed class of 92.

Roar if you’re red

October 25, 2006

This is a blog site started by a red devil fan and is in no way related to the Glazer-run-hoopla situated at Old Trafford. Long suffering Man Utd fans, lets come together. We know we can’t bend it like Beck..erm..Fletcher, or score like van..er..Rooney, but we can wink like Ronaldo, curse and swear like Schmeichel and Keane, albeit at the harmless TV screen while chomping on our prawn sandwiches.

And so this blog was started, for the common red devils like you and me, for those proudly wearing your jerseys (the red one, not the blue of chelsea), whether it was bought of the streets of Thailand for 10 bucks or from the Nike shop for 10 times that. Lets rant and rave about our beloved team, Manchester United Football Club..
